Workshop
with Dick Lindell - Kumihimo
THis weekend, our guild was given a fantastic workshop by our very
own listee, Dick Lindell. If you can, have this fellow teach you
a thing or 2!
Our workshop was a day & a half of kumihimo. One evening of
"overview" to which he brought a huge stack of books,
braids, and braiding material. THis was the background/history/materials
session.
The second day was 6 hours where he walked us from our arrival
with a pile of household "stuff" thru setting up our maru
dais, to weaving a sampler braid using 8 bobbins that consisted
of 5 different tichniques. He also covered color variations. Even
the most coorination-challenged among us were able to follow his
easy instructions.
On top of this, he produced and gave to each of us a 32 page booklet
that explained 12 and 16 bobbin braid techniques (& some color
variations) as well as all those he taught and other necessary information
to get you started. No notetaking necessary to be able to recreate
everything you did at the workshop!
Working on a maru dai vs that cardboad circle is like going to
a resturant vs making flint chip tools and then going hunting to
find lunch.... there is no real comparison. Its MUCH easier and
MUCH more fun!
